Course Completion Records and Future Credentials

Completing a training course is a meaningful step — but it is not the same as holding a professional credential. Here is how the two relate in AUREA's proposed model.

A course completion record confirms that a student completed a stated training program. A future AUREA professional credential, if established, would require separate standards, governance, assessment, ethics, and continuing-education requirements.

Course completion is not a credential

A completion record says a person finished a specific course. It does not by itself authorize professional practice, and it is not a license. Families and employers should read what a record actually represents.

A possible future AUREA credential

Future AUREA credentials, if formally adopted, are intended to indicate that clearly published requirements have been met. Such a credential would be a separate decision from course completion and would depend on the governance AUREA establishes after formation.

The framework below is a proposed model for public comment. It is not adopted, not active, and does not describe any current AUREA program. AUREA does not yet issue credentials.

Proposed competency & requirements framework

This draft separates two layers: what a training provider's program may be expected to cover, and what an individual future credential may require. Both are proposals for community review.

Training-provider program (proposed)

Curriculum scopeAligned to the AUREA draft competency framework (newborn care, feeding support, safe sleep, parent education, ethics).

InstructionDefined contact hours and supervised, hands-on practice, taught by qualified faculty.

AssessmentA written and/or practical assessment demonstrating the stated competencies.

TransparencyPublished learning outcomes and a completion record families can verify.

Individual future credential (proposed)

Education & trainingCompletion of an AUREA-aligned program, or an equivalent pathway under review.

ExaminationA standardized assessment administered under supervised conditions.

Practice experienceA defined period of supervised or documented practice.

EthicsAcceptance of the AUREA Code of Ethics and conduct requirements.

Continuing educationA future renewal cycle with ongoing education requirements.

No in-house training

AUREA does not currently operate its own training courses. Future eligible providers would be expected to meet the same published, provider-review criteria. AUREA has not yet approved, accredited, or endorsed any training provider.

The proposed registry

The proposed registry is designed to give each eligible training record or future credential a publicly verifiable record. This website is a demonstration of that experience and does not yet contain live records.

AUREA does not currently issue professional certifications or credentials. This website demonstrates a proposed public registry for training completion records and possible future professional credentials.
